Regina Newton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lord Funeral Home - Wolfeboro on Jan. 25, 2025.
Regina C. "Jean" Newton, 88, passed away Tuesday January 14, 2025 at the Genesis- Wolfeboro Bay Care Center, Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.
She was born June 20, 1936, in Philadelphia, PA, to Francis and Margaret Daley. She graduated from West Catholic Girl's School in 1954.
Her favorite activity in the Fifties was dancing, even regularly appearing on American Bandstand, much to the dismay of the West Catholic Sisters.
She met her first husband, CDR. Victor Gavin, at a school dance in Philadelphia. They were married in 1957 and embarked on a life in the US Navy. In her kitchen hung a self-made award: a framed paper bag from the Navy Exchange that stated, "Navy Wife, the toughest job in the Navy". This was a job she did with great success, grace, and dignity. During war-time and peace-time, she could pack up her children, move them across continents and countries, get them set up in schools, church, and activities - far from her family and even in third world countries. She served at military events, fashion shows, and luncheons with extreme prowess and always with poise and beauty.
In 1974, she married CDR. James Newton. Together, they completed their family and then retired from military service, moving to their next and final chapter in Alton, NH.
The vast and varied experiences in Jean's life gifted her with a wild sense of humor and a great love for travel and adventure. She made sure everyone around her felt loved and she saw the beauty of every soul, often helping you to see it for yourself. It is also apparent that all of her grandchildren seem to have inherited her love for adventure and creativity for hysterical antics; but, in the end, she leaves behind a close-knit family spread out all over the country, but together in their love for Mom-Nana-Nana the Great.
Jean leaves behind her sister Peggy Gallagher and her brother John Daley, her children Maryann Gavin of Virginia Beach, VA, Linda Gavin Roy of Alton, NH, Michael Gavin (Theresa) of Drayden, MD, Courtney Newton Leavitt (Peter) of Alton, NH, Michael John Newton (Peter) of West Yarmouth, MA; grandchildren: Abigail Davidson, Samuel Davidson (Hannah), Isabella Gianoni (Christian), Meredith McGilvray (Matthew), Marc Roy, Morgan Roy, Spenser Gavin, Julia Leavitt, and Nathan Leavitt; great grandchildren: Maddyn, Maxton, Taylor, Dominic, Reid, and Avery.
At the request of the family, funeral services will be private.
