We gather today to honor and celebrate the life of Reginald "Reggie" Quander, a man whose presence brought warmth, kindness, and joy to all who knew him. Born on March 18, 1943, in Washington, D.C., Reggie's life was a testament to love, service, and dedication. He passed away on March 8, 2025, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by his family and friends.
Reggie proudly served his country in the United States Army, earning an honorable discharge before continuing his career as an IT specialist with the federal government. After years of hard work and dedication, he retired, ready to enjoy life's simpler pleasures - and no one appreciated those moments more than Reggie.
Some of Reggie's happiest memories were those spent with his beloved wife, Cindy. For 22 years, they built a life together filled with laughter, music, and love. Whether they were swaying to the sounds of jazz, enjoying concerts featuring "oldies but goodies," or cheering on the Nationals, Reggie and Cindy found joy in each other's company.
Another place that brought Reggie joy was the beach. He and Cindy loved spending time in Ocean City, Maryland, celebrating their honeymoon and countless anniversaries there. They would sit for hours watching the waves roll in, savoring the peaceful rhythm of the ocean. Walking the boardwalk was always a must, and they never returned home without bags full of saltwater taffy and fudge - special treats they loved to share with their grandchildren. These trips were more than vacations; they were cherished traditions that created lasting memories.
Reggie also had a gift for cooking - especially when it came to creating meals for Cindy. His salads were legendary, each layer carefully arranged like a work of art, and his lamb chops were second to none. Cooking wasn't just a skill for Reggie; it was an act of love, and those meals were his way of bringing comfort and happiness to those he cared about most.
Family was everything to Reggie. He is survived by his loving wife, Cindy; his stepson, Booker Battle III; his stepdaughter, Tamara Battle (Andre); his son, Reginald Quander Jr. (Comelia); and his daughter, Wendy Quander (Anthony). His grandchildren - Jazmine, Penelope, Hazel, Antwuan, Kyndal, Khalia, Ranique, Marquia, Eugene, and Courtnie - brought him endless pride and joy. His faithful companions, Rusty and Ginger, were always by his side, offering their unwavering love and loyalty.
Reggie is now reunited with those who went before him - his mother, Helen; his father, John; his stepfather, Arthur; his sister, Doris; his grandson, Dominick; and his beloved dog, Duke. We take comfort in knowing that they are together again, watching over us.
To know Reggie was to know a man who gave generously, loved deeply, and found joy in life's quiet moments. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the friends who adored him, and the countless memories he created.
Today, we remember Reggie not with sadness alone, but with gratitude for the love he gave and the life he lived. May his memory continue to inspire us all.
