Remar Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by K.L. Brown Memory Chapel - Anniston on Mar. 11, 2026.
Graveside services for Mrs. Remar C. Smith, 83, of Oxford, Alabama, will be held at 10:00 a.m. (EST) on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the Georgia National Cemetery. Words will be spoken by her children, Lisa and Larry. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs.

Remar passed away on March 10, 2026, at home, surrounded by her loving family.

Remar will be remembered as a woman who embraced life with joy, warmth, and a love for the people and experiences that meant the most to her. She had a deep appreciation for music of all kinds, enjoyed traveling, and especially cherished the time she and her husband spent in Sicily. A devoted grandmother, she treasured every moment with her grandchildren. Remar was also known for her enthusiasm for baseball and college football, her unmatched talent for shopping, and for making what many say was the best fried chicken anyone has ever tasted. A faithful member of Hill Crest Baptist Church, she spent many years working with the Biloxi City Schools while her children were students there, leaving a lasting impression on those she served and worked alongside.

Remar is preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, James "Larry" Smith, Jr.; her parents, Ores Wilbur Cardwell and Amanda Ilene Rowe Cardwell; and a sister, Wilma Schroer.

Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Goram (Robby Simpson); a son, Larry Smith; grandchildren, Chase Goram, Reid Goram, Laylah Smith, Grayson Smith, Parker Smith, and Lauren Smith; great-grandchildren, Jacob Goram, Noah Goram, and Greyson Goram; a nephew, Bill Watson; and a great-niece, Leslie Watson Bath.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kelly Clark, David Geissinger, Rodney Mattina, Robby Simpson, Jimmy Milling, and Steve Narbo.

The family would like to thank SouthernCare New Beacon Hospice and Valerie with Amedisys Home Health for the wonderful care given to Mrs. Smith.
