In Loving Memory of Remijo Vieira
October 1, 1931 – October 20, 2025
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Remijo Vieira, who departed this life on October 20, 2025, at the age of 94, surrounded by his loving family at home.
Born on October 1, 1931, in Fogo, Cabo Verde, Remijo was the cherished son of the late Avelina Vieira.
A man of unwavering faith, deep love for his family, and immense strength, Remijo faced life's greatest trials with courage and dignity. He lost his father, mother, and became an amputee at an early age, yet never allowed these hardships to define him. Although he endured many losses, he worked harder than most, building a life through effort, integrity, and sheer willpower.
With an unbreakable spirit, he spent his early years hauling sand, goods, and supplies on the backs of donkeys, providing for his family and shaping a future through persistence and determination. His hands were calloused from labor, but his heart remained kind, generous, and full of warmth.
He was the devoted husband of Maria Isabel Alves Veiga, with whom he built a legacy grounded in love, resilience, and unity. Together they raised twelve children in Cape Verde, ensuring that each one received an education - an extraordinary accomplishment in Fogo at that time. Through his lineage, his spirit continues in fifty-two grandchildren, who carry forward his values of strength, humility, and kindness along with many great-grandchildren.
Though he worked hard, he lived with joy. Outspoken, funny, and full of life, he brought laughter, comfort, and light to every room he entered. His smile was his signature - wide, genuine, welcoming, and unforgettable. He loved to dance, to spend time with his family, and to watch his favorite soccer team, S.L. Benfica, with passion and pride. Those joys reflected his spirit - lively, warm, and full of heart.
He often said, "Nhos tudo eh de meu e me eh di nhos tudo" - All of you belong to me, and I belong to all of you. And he truly lived by those words, joyfully making friends wherever he went.
In 2011, Remijo immigrated to the United States, carrying with him the same humor, humility, and strength that had guided him throughout his life. He will be remembered as a pillar of his family and community - a man whose door and heart were always open. His presence was a source of wisdom, his hands always ready to help, and his laughter a joy that filled every home he visited.
As we mourn the loss of our beloved patriarch, we also celebrate the remarkable life he lived and the profound impact he made. His memory will live on in our hearts, stories, and shared traditions.
He lived ninety-four remarkable years, leaving behind not only a large and loving family but also a legacy of love, resilience, and purpose that will live on for generations.
Matthew 25:21
"Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things; I will set you over many. Enter into the joy of your Lord."
He lived faithfully and worked tirelessly, giving all he had to his family and to life itself. Now, after a lifetime of love, labor, and laughter, he enters the eternal peace and rest he so deeply earned.
May he rest in eternal peace
