Renate Annmarie (Grabke) Johnston, age 83 of Dayton Mountain, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at her home. She was born on August 5, 1942 in Vienna, Austria. Renate was preceded in death by husband, Dudley Dwight Johnston; and her daughter, Christina O’Bryant.
She was raised in Germany before making her way to the United States in 1965, where she later became a U.S. citizen. She resided in Florida until 1990 when she moved to Dayton Mountain. Alongside her husband, she owned and operated multiple stone rock quarries on Dayton Mountain. An avid lover of nature, she found joy in gardening and nurturing flowers, leaving a lasting impression of beauty on those around her.
Renate is survived by her three daughters, Monika Prestwood and Michelle (Steve) Kelley, both of Soddy-Daisy, and Nicole Marler of Dayton Mountain; her son, Ralf Meinzer of Florida; her grandchildren, Nicholas, Mitchell, Dylan, Cole, Peri and Matthew; her brother, Axel Grabke of Germany; and her special granddaughter, Brynn McMillin.
She has been laid to rest on the Johnston Family Cemetery on Dayton Mountain.
