Irene “Rene” Morey, 79, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025. Born on June 6, 1946, as one of two daughters to Mary Grace and Henry Gautschi, Rene grew up in Ohio, and lived in Texas, Rhode Island, and New Jersey. She moved through life with a curious and independent spirit, a generous heart, and joyful approach to life.
Rene graduated from Howland High School in 1964, after which she worked for the theater company Kenley Players as a dresser for touring Broadway shows. She was married to Larry Morey from 1967 to 1976 and had one son, whom she raised in Ohio and Rhode Island. Rene had a variety of occupations throughout her life, finding connection and community wherever she lived. She enjoyed spending time in New York City, but her favorite place was Newport, Rhode Island.
Rene is survived by her loving family; her son Jeff and his partner Jeremy; her sister Diane Vukovich and her husband Tom. She will be lovingly remembered by her cousins in Warren, Ohio, and her good friend Malena Gillespie. Rene will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.
A special thank you to the staff at Copley Health Center and Summa Hospice for the compassionate care they provided for Rene.
