Renee Dawn Walstrom, of Minnetonka, MN, passed away on November 18 at the age of 95. Born October 29, 1929, the day of the stock market crash marking the beginning of the great depression, Renee's humble beginnings instilled strong values and faith that became the cornerstones of her life and legacy.
Known for her intellectual sharpness and abundant wit, Renee graduated high school in Minneapolis, MN at 16 and began working at WCCO Radio. Soon after starting, a fateful blind date at the Excelsior Amusement Park would lead her to the love of her life, Les. They were married in 1948 and spent 60 joyous years together. Renee and Les built a beautiful family bringing daughter Carol into the world in 1950, followed by sons Steven (1953) and James (1958). Their family of five moved to Cottagewood in 1966 buying, in Renee's words, "a small, rundown home" on the shore of Lake Minnetonka. She reflected, "Les could see what it could be, I could see what it was." Together they made that house a home, making beautiful memories with dear friends and family over their 41 years on the lake.
A servant heart and unwavering faith led Renee to Mount Calvary, where she quickly took on many responsibilities in her 15 years of service. Renee truly knew that it was more blessed to give than to receive. Her generosity knew no bounds. When asked about her legacy, Renee hoped that her deep love of family would be carried on for generations to come. And, that it will be, with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren carrying forward the traditions and wisdom she instilled upon us all.
Preceded in death by husband Leslie Walstrom, parents Morton and Agnes Meyers, and sister Marilyn (Earl) Curtis. She is survived by her children Carol, Steven (Mary Ann), James (Ann), her grandchildren Nicholas (Jody), Jason (Heather), Christina (Jared), Andrew (Jacqueline), Michael (Erica), Stephanie, and Nick, and her 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation Monday, Nov. 25, 5-7 PM, at Huber Funeral Home, 520 2nd St., Excelsior, as well as one-hour prior to the 11:00 AM memorial service at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 301 Cty Rd 19, Excelsior, on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Private burial at Fort Snelling the following day. Memorials preferred to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church.
