Renee Whitmer, a cherished and spirited soul, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on May 22, 2025, at her home in Phenix City, Alabama. Born on January 3, 1953, in Columbus, Georgia, to Herman "Pete" Giles and Maxine Massey Giles, Renee was a beacon of warmth and joy throughout her 72 years of life.
Renee's life was characterized by her unwavering love and dedication to her family. She was a beloved wife to her husband of 55 years, Johnny Whitmer, a nurturing mother to her children, Jason Whitmer and Keshia Wilson (Aaron), and a doting grandmother to her granddaughter, Brooke Allen (Tyler). Her family was her pride and joy, and she instilled in them values of kindness, resilience, and humor. Renee was preceded in death by her cherished son, Adam Whitmer, and her dear parents.
Renee's home was the heart of the family, filled with the aromas of her cooking and the sight of her treasured collection of Christmas snow people. She was renowned for her culinary skills and took great pleasure in preparing meals for her loved ones. Renee's interests extended beyond the kitchen; she was an avid reader, enjoyed sitting outside basking in nature's tranquility, and cherished time spent with her beloved dogs, Bella and Nalla. Her love for the beach was profound, and her family fondly remembers the joyful trips they shared, etching lasting memories in the sand.
A true matriarch, Renee had a knack for gently guiding her family with wisdom and a touch of humor. Her spirited nature and loving heart made her the cornerstone of her family, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her.
A visitation for Renee will be held on Sunday, May 25th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home in Phenix City, AL. The funeral service will be conducted on Monday, May 26th, at 10:00 AM at Lakeview Memory Gardens, with Dr. Tim Jones officiating.
As a homemaker, Renee's work was never done, and her association with life's most precious moments made her an expert in the art of love and care. Her legacy is one of laughter, guidance, and an unending capacity for love. Renee Whitmer lived a life full of purpose and joy, her spirit and love enduring in the memories of those she leaves behind. She will be profoundly missed, but the light she brought to this world will continue to shine in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
