Ret. Mayo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home on Feb. 12, 2026.
Chief Charles C. Mayo (Ret) of the Weston Police Dept and Stow Police Dept, passed away in his home, Sunday, February 8, 2026, with his loving family by his side after a brief illness.

Chuck was born in Worcester and raised in Northborough, one of two sons of Charles H. and Irene (LaBarge) Mayo. He graduated from Saint John's High School in Shrewsbury in 1965. He enlisted in the Unites States Navy in 1966, serving his country for the next four years before being honorably discharged and transferring into the Naval Reserves until 1972. He married Cheryl M. Kelleher on March 25, 1972, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hudson. Together they raised their family in Shrewsbury with love and true family values.

Chuck was a lifelong policeman; he joined the Northborough Police Department in 1970 after graduating from the Worcester Police Academy. This is where he spent thirteen years, he rose to the rank of Sergeant and fostered many wonderful relationships with fellow officers and throughout the Northborough community. During his time in law enforcement, he continued his education, achieving his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in criminal justice. In 1983, he became the Chief of Police for the town of Stow, MA, serving that community for fifteen years before finishing his extensive career as the Chief of Police of Weston, MA, from which he retired in 2004.

Chuck loved his family and when he got quality time to spend with his grandchildren, he always had a gentle smile on his face! He was a faithful member and volunteer of Saint Anne's Parish in Shrewsbury where he was a lector and Eucharistic minister. He also enjoyed his quiet time at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club, where he was a member for several years.

He was a loving husband of 54 years to his bride, Cheryl Mayo; a devoted father of Nathaniel Mayo, of Newington, CT, Courtney Mayo Silvani and her husband Rich, of Shrewsbury, and Megan Mayo and her wife Samantha, of Boxborough; proud grandfather of Bryce and Reagan Mayo, of Newington, CT, and Lucia and Ryleigh Silvani, of Shrewsbury; caring brother of Gary "Mike" Mayo, of Phillipston.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute (https://www.dana-farber.org/how-you-can-help/ways-to-give) or to Saint Anne's Human Services (https://stannesparish.org/human-services).

Relatives and friends are invited to visit Chuck's family on Monday, February 16, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main Street. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at St. Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury (we ask kindly for you to go directly to church). Burial, with U.S. Navy funeral honors, will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
