Retha Abrantes

GOUVERNEUR- Retha Abrantes, age 98 passed away on May 20, 2025 at Canton Potsdam Hospital. A graveside service will be held on Monday June 2nd at 6 PM at Maple Grove Cemetery, Richville, with Pastor Howard Maxson officiating. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home, 33 Park Street, Gouverneur. Retha was born in Gouverneur on June 8, 1926 to the late Homer and Mildred (Smith) Gladle. She attended Gouverneur Central School. Gouverneur, the Lace Mill, the California Fruit. A marriage to Jim Abrantes ended in divorce. Surviving Retha is a niece, Venita Woodall, and three nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, a sister Anna, and her companion for the last 40 years Dave Hamilton. Retha enjoyed working outside in her flower beds and working in her large vegetable garden.
