Benson, NC: Retired Sergeant Major Glenn Eldridge Clifton, age 85 of NC 50 North went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 7, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be 11:00AM Saturday, April 12, 2025 at the Friendship Baptist Church in Angier. Officiating will be Rev. Jeff Morgan. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors.
Mr. Clifton was born on March 17, 1940 in Johnston County to the late Oker and Nellie Johnson Clifton. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Sue Clifton; and sisters, Rose Marie Young, Hilda Stuart, and Nita Jones. With a distinguished career spanning 30 years, Mr. Clifton served his country with honor, rising through the ranks to become a respected leader and retired as a Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army. His unwavering commitment to duty, selflessness, and courage defined his service, and he dedicated his life to protecting the freedoms of his fellow Americans, both in times of peace and war. Throughout Mr. Clifton’s career, he earned numerous awards and accolades, but it was his dedication to his soldiers and his country that left the most lasting impression. Even in retirement, he remained deeply proud of his service, always carrying with him the values of integrity, loyalty, and sacrifice. His legacy of patriotism and service will continue to inspire all who knew him. Mr. Clifton was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Angier and served in many different capacities.
Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Carol F. Clifton; son, Eddie Clifton and wife, Gina of Clayton; daughters, Ronda Morton and husband, Patrick of Moriarty, New Mexico and Dana Stancil and husband, Wade of Benson; grandchildren, Scott Clifton and wife, Brittany, Heather Perrin and husband, Cole, Ashlee Tucker and husband, Jeff, Jaci McNeal and husband, Jourdan, Macy Cross and husband, Michael, Austin Stancil and wife, Isayana; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Friday, April 11, 2025 at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson and other times at the home.
Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to Friendship Baptist Church, 416 Greenleaf Road, Angier, NC 27501.
