Rev. Ambrose Clifford Clemens, 99, of Selma, Indiana, peacefully left this world on Thursday, April 17, 2025. Having faithfully lived his life with the anticipation of living forever with Jesus, he is now home.
He was born on November 20, 1925, in Blount County, Tennessee, to Ambrose Cleveland Clemens and Carrie Melvina (George) Clemens. Ambrose was one of nine children and affectionately became known as 'AC'. At the age of 17, AC was sworn into the Navy at Knoxville, TN. He served his country in many different locations, including Hawaii. Upon his return from the Navy and passing his GED exam, AC enrolled in God's Bible School and College in Cincinnati, Ohio. The following year found him attending Central Wesleyan College in Central, South Carolina, where he graduated with a Th.B degree. It was at Central College where he met Betty, and after their marriage, a lifelong ministry began together. Though a man of few words, AC's love for sharing Jesus with others was a passion of his. The love of his life, Betty, ministered by his side so faithfully. AC pastored churches in Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, and North Carolina. With the declining health of his wife, it was of best interest to move them to Selma, Indiana to be near their son, Steve, and his wife, Sheryl. AC was a man of strong faith. His walk with Christ was remarkably steady. He loved to read, and his Bible was an open book that he treasured.
In addition to his parents and all eight of his siblings, AC was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, and their firstborn son, Clifford.
Those left to cherish his memory are his three sons, Steve (Sheryl) Clemens of Muncie, IN, Jon (Becky) Clemens of Covington, GA, and Paul (Robyn) Clemens of Milford, OH; seven grandchildren, Mark (Joy) Clemens, David (Beka) Clemens, Stephenie (Phil) Brugger, Shawn (Melanie) Clemens, Scott (Kristina) Clemens, Rachael (Kevin) Easley, and Elisabeth (Jon) Avery. His twenty-one great-grandchildren were some of his most valued earthly treasures: Jon Alt Clemens, CharliAnne Clemens, Sophia Clemens, Gabriel Simoes, Blake Brugger, Kade Brugger, Chase Brugger, Paige Brugger, Ethan Clemens, Landon Clemens, Morgan Clemens, Camron Clemens, Konrad Clemens, Reagan Clemens, MacKenzie Clemens, Conner Easley, Caleb Easley, Colten Easley, Aviah Avery, Elliott Avery, Hannah Avery.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Sproles Family Funeral Home, 2400 S. Memorial Dr., New Castle, IN 47362.
Visitation will also be held at 10:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, 108 Cross Creek Rd. Central, SC 29630, with Rev. Stephen Clemens officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
