Rev. Meldred Lavoe Bloodworth, 93, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 4, 2025. He passed in his home surrounded by his family. He will be greatly missed.
M.L. Bloodworth was born in Porterdale, Georgia, on December 31, 1931, to the late Grady Bloodworth Sr. and Sally Phillips Bloodworth. In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Carolina Jesse Bloodworth, six siblings: Raymond Phillips, Idell Trawick, Grady Jr. Bloodworth, Marion Bloodworth, Walter "dub" Bloodworth, and Marilyn Nobles. He is survived by four children: Sherry Colden (Edward), David Bloodworth (Vicki), Patricia Jennings, and Samuel Bloodworth (Lori). Seven Grandchildren: Brittney, Jonathan, Crystal (Richard), Shelley, Jordan (Brian), Candice (Nicholas), and Courtney (Quentin). Twenty-three great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, A few step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
M.L. was a devoted husband, beloved father, granddaddy, and great-granddaddy. Rev. ML. Bloodworth was a minister of the Eastern Virginia Conference, "Redemption Ministries" since 1959.Serving as a board member for years. He was ordained in 1961 after his studies at Holmes Bible College, where he graduated as Salutatorian of his class of 1961. He pastored four churches in his last 64 years. His first church was in Appomattox, VA. Then he pastored at Norview Pentecostal Holiness Church in
Norfolk, VA. After seventeen years, he moved to North Carolina to preach at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Elizabeth City. The last church he pastored, He started in 1997. Olivet Lakes Pentecostal Holiness church in Elizabeth City, NC. He retired from that Church in 2002. The lord wasn't ready for him to retire and led him over to Chesapeake, VA, to assist Rev. Nelson Fields at Living Waters Christian Fellowship. A few years later, he retired and started visiting other churches to hear God's word from pastoral friends. He attended Calvary Assembly of God, Pastored by friend Dan Goff. Azalea Garden Church of God, pastored by Rodney Vickers, was the last church he called home. Here is where he attended with his family each Sunday. He was also a part of the Young at Heart. During his retirement from the Pulpit, he was called to preach God's word outside the four walls of the church and to lead as many people to Christ as possible. He has preached God's word since 1959 and spoke about the goodness of God's grace until the last days of his life. His life's journey began on December 31, 1931, but his faith journey started on April 7th, 1952, in a small church in San Diego, California. He kneeled at the altar and gave his life to Jesus, and changed his forever destination. On the evening of August 4, 2025, He made it to his heavenly Home to be with Jesus and his wife.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 7 pm to 9 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home,5033 Rouse Drive,
Virginia Beach, VA. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 1:00 pm at Azalea Garden Church of God with Bishop Hans Hess, Rev. Shawn Edwards, and Rev. Roger Edwards to officiate. Following the funeral service M.L. will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk.
