Rev. Michael Thomas Williams, a beloved figure in our community and a dedicated pastor, passed away on January 2, 2026, at the age of 68. Born on April 7, 1957, in Wilson, North Carolina, Michael lived a life rich in service, love, and laughter.

For ten years, Michael served as a cherished pastor at Marvin United Methodist Church, where his passion for ministry and community outreach touched countless lives. His commitment to helping others was recognized when he received a committed community support award from the Cumberland County School Board. His tireless efforts in volunteering, particularly in support of the food pantry and the Christian center in Gray's Creek, showcased his selflessness and dedication to those in need. He frequently stepped in as a substitute, further demonstrating his readiness to serve wherever he was needed.

Michael's education was a testament to his commitment to his faith and purpose. He earned his seminary degree from Mt. Olive College and went on to receive a master’s degree from Campbell University, equipping him with the skills necessary to guide and nurture his congregation.

In addition to his pastoral duties, Michael was a proud veteran, having joined the Air Force in 1975 and retiring in 1993 as a Technical Sergeant, honored with numerous awards throughout his commendable career. His service included a tour in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm.

As a family-oriented man, Michael enjoyed sharing precious moments with his children, Christopher Williams (Christina) and Krystal Williams (Edward), and his grandchildren, Michaela, Megan, Jasmine, and Hope. He also held a special place in his heart for his nieces, Brennan and Brittany. Michael was known for his infectious humor and caring nature. Friends described him as a "give you the shirt off his back" kind of person, someone who radiated warmth and kindness.

Outside of his professional life, Michael found joy in bowling, golf, and fishing—activities that brought him happiness and were often shared with loved ones. He was not just a father; he was a devoted figure to his girls, dedicating time and love to them in every way possible.

Michael will be remembered fondly for his incredible cooking, which was often the centerpiece of many family gatherings, showcasing yet another way he expressed his love for those around him. His absence leaves a void that will resonate deeply within the hearts of all who knew him.

Michael is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years, Cynthia, his parents Henry and Marie Williams, and his sister Tammy Blaxton. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and nieces, who will carry his memory forward, honoring his legacy of love, faith, and community commitment.

Visitation will be held on January 11, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed immediately by a memorial service from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, at the Marvin United Methodist Church, located at 6740 NC-87, Fayetteville, NC.

Rev. Michael Thomas Williams truly lived a life of service, love, and community. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
