Rev. Peter Howard White, 90, of Worcester, passed away peacefully with his family on Monday, July 15, 2024 in his home in Georgetown, IN. He was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on May 19, 1934. He graduated from Classical High School, Worcester, and attended Holy Cross before beginning his studies for the priesthood at St. Philip Neri Seminary, Boston and St. Mary’s Seminary, Baltimore.
Rev. Peter White was ordained as a priest by the Most Reverend Bernard J. Flanagan at St. Paul’s Cathedral on June 16, 1962. He served as a diocesan priest for 50 years. Following his ordination, he served as associate paster of St. John the Evangelist Parish, Clinton; Our Lady of Fatima and St. Andrew the Apostle parishes 1962-1965, Worcester; St. Brigid Parish 1965-1974, Millbury, and St. Ann Parish 1974-1981, North Oxford. He assumed his first role as pastor at Holy Spirit Parish 1981-1990, Gardner. He served twenty-two years as pastor of St. Aloysisus-St. Jude Parish 1990-2012, Leicester. During his retirement, he assisted at Christ the King Parish 2012-2013 in Pine Mountain, GA. He continued to celebrate mass and administer sacraments as a resident at the Villa’s of Guerin Woods Nursing Home in Indiana from 2016-2019 with his family close by.
Rev White was passionate about being charitable to the poor and was devoted to the poor people of Haiti. He will be remembered the “Empty Stable,” the “Twelve Days of Christmas” and for his love of butterflies, a symbol of resurrection and new life. He took pleasure in playing games and attending gatherings with his sister, nieces, nephews, and their families. He was a dedicated Boston Red Socks fan and enjoyed watching most sports.
Rev. White leaves behind cherished memories with many former parishioners and nieces; Ann Lawrence, Sue Lambert McLaughlin (Michael), Beth Snay, Lynn Getrost (Craig), and nephews; Mark Frankboner (Janice), Matt Frankboner and several grand and great nieces and nephews spread out across the country.
Rev. White’s Mass of Christian Burial will held at Saint Aloysius Saint Jude Parish 489 Pleasant Street, Leicester, Massachusetts on Monday, September 23, 2024 at 11:00 AM.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Jude-St. Aloysius Parish marked to the Hattian Ministries, 491 Pleasant St., Leister, MA 01524. (508) 892-8296.
