Rev. William Francis Gerut, S.J.

Fr. William F. Gerut, S.J., was called to eternal life on July 17, 2025 in Wauwatosa, WI. He was 88 years old, a Jesuit for 71 years and a priest for 58 years. Born in Oak Park, IL, he graduated from Campion Jesuit High School and entered the Society of Jesus in 1954. He taught at Creighton Prep in Omaha (1961-1964 and 1974-1981) and St. Francis Mission in South Dakota (1968-1974). He earned a master's degree in history at St. Louis University. He was associate pastor and pastor at St. Gabriel's in Prairie du Chien, WI and Saints Peter and Paul in Mankato, MN. He was associate pastor at St. Isaac Jogues in Rapid City, SD. He served the needs of the Jesuit Community at Holy Rosary Mission and at Creighton University where he did pastoral ministry and hospital chaplaincy. He moved to St. Camillus Jesuit Community in 2018 to care for his health. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Grace (McNellis) Gerut, his brothers John and Robert, and his sister Mary Jane Sullivan. He is survived by brother Charles (Janet) and his nieces and nephews. He donated his body to medical science.

Memorial Mass at St. Camillus Jesuit Community on Saturday, September 6, at 11:00 a.m. His cremains will be buried at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Milwaukee. Memorials to St. Camillus Jesuit Community, 10201 W. Wisconsin Ave., Wauwatosa, WI 53226.
