Rex Bond Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory - McAlester on Jan. 25, 2024.
Rex Allen Bond, 76, of McAlester died on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at McAlester Regional Health Center.
The family will greet friends at a come and go visitation on Friday, January 26, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Bishop Funeral Service in McAlester. Cremation will follow at Bishop Crematory, no further services are planned.
Rex was born on August 2, 1947, in Alton, Illinois to John D. and Mildred (Leiner) Bond.
Rex honorably served his country in the United States Navy and in the Oklahoma National Guard. He served a tour in Vietnam while in the Navy and a tour in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm as a member of the Oklahoma National Guard 445th Unit. Following his military career, Rex worked as a security guard at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant. He enjoyed his work and made many lifelong friendships.
Rex enjoyed attending local high school sporting events with his brother Bill. He was proudest watching his son, Justin, coach the McAlester Buffaloes and his nephew, James, coach the Savanna Bulldogs. He delighted in spending time with his grandchildren.
Rex had several diverse hobbies that made him the unique individual that he was. As a young man he was an avid bird hunter. In his middle years he thoroughly enjoyed participating in the bowling league at the old McAlester bowling alley. He also joined many of his friends in a volleyball league at the McAAP. He slowed down a bit in recent years where he spent much of his time sitting out in the front yard talking with his neighbors. He also enjoyed taking his dog, Penny, for rides around town.
Rex was a kind man who was always willing to help others. He will be missed.
Rex is survived by his sons, Justin and his wife, Niki of McAlester, and John Bond of Broken Arrow. His brothers, Jack Bond of Florida, Bob Bond and his wife, Connie of Illinois, Billy Bond of Krebs, and his sister, Jerilyn Close of Illinois. His grandchildren, Allison Bond of Weatherford, OK; Kade Bond, Johnny Bond, and Jayden Bond of Broken Arrow.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John D. and Mildred (Leiner) Bond; his brother, Spencer Bond, and his former wife, Lorraine Bond.
