Rex Lee Carpenter, born on March 10, 1956, peacefully passed on August 5, 2025, after a life marked by dedication, service, and passion. Rex was not only a business owner but also a proud veteran and community servant.
Rex's journey began in the Navy, where he served his country with honor. After his military service, he continued his life of service in a different uniform, as a police officer in Napoleon, Ohio. His commitment to law and order was paralleled by his entrepreneurial spirit. Rex graduated from Southwestern Michigan College and received his license as an EMT where he served proudly. He went on to own and operate his own car shop, a place that became a hub for automotive enthusiasts and a cornerstone of the community.
His love for cars extended beyond the garage. Rex was proud of his car show that he took over in downtown Niles, an event that brought together people from all walks of life to share in their appreciation for classic and modern automobiles. This shows not only showcased Rex's deep knowledge and passion for cars but also his ability to bring people together in celebration of shared interests. He had a 1973 GTO that he loved and was very passionate about. When he could he would show it off and spin those tires like he was back on the drag strip. He enjoyed taking his classic cars to other car shows where his fellow friends had the same love for them as he did. Classic cars were a big part of his life.
Rex also enjoyed spending time with his grandkids in his free time. Seeing them laugh, play and grow added a big smile to his face. He enjoyed watching them in play in the sports they were involved in Cheering loud and proud for them. He was always so proud of his grandkid's achievements.
Rex's life was one of active engagement in the worlds of business, public service, and community building. He will be remembered not just for what he did, but also for the enthusiasm and integrity with which he did everything.
Along with his parents, Rex was preceded in death by his daughter, Carrie Carpenter, and brother, K. Carpenter.
Left to cherish the memory of Rex is his daughter, Sara (Christopher) Austin, and grandchildren, Khloe, Ariyana, Spencer, Zoey, and Avery, and sister, Darlene Kelly.
