Rex Holt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Moore-Rose Silverton Visitation Center on Jan. 1, 2026.
Silverton - Rex Holt, age 99, passed away on December 31, 2025 in Lubbock. Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 9, 2026 at First Baptist Church in Silverton with GJ Walton officiating. Interment will follow at the Silverton Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in Silverton. Arrangements are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home.

Rex Gilbert Holt was born on January 11, 1926 in Briscoe County, Tx to W.A. "Bill" and Leona Seay Holt. Rex attended Lone Star grade school and Silverton high school until he left prior to graduation to run the family farm. During his high school days, Rex played football for the Silverton Owls football team, during one game he fell and broke his nose. While in high school Rex met the love of his life Theta Stephens. The two were married August 5, 1944 in her parents home in Silverton. At this time Rex only had a Ford tractor and $25 to his name. After getting married, to make money he hauled gravel and caliche to Floyd County to help build highway 207. During the winter months, Rex traveled to Lone Star in his Model A to build well-casings. Rex was the yin to Theta's yang. They were married 73 years at the time of Theta's death. Much of Rex's life revolved around the family farm, but he would find time for camping trips and family reunions. Rex was a collector and had a large collection of Texico piggy bank trucks. In more recent years, Rex looked forward to the annual fishing trip to Red River, NM with the grands and great grands. As a boy he was raised Church of Christ, then after marriage he attended First Baptist Church in Silverton where he spent many years as a deacon. Rex was a hard-working, patient, kind, quiet, and forgiving man. He loved his family and loved when the whole crew could get together. Rex spent the last two years living at Wedgewood South in Lubbock. The Family would like to thank the staff for the love and care he received while living at this facility.

He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons, William and David; a daughter-in-law, Debbie; his parents; and sisters, Peggy Garvin, Reba Kitchens, and an infant sister, Hattie Lorema.

He is survived by one daughter, Karen Turner, and her husband Doug, of Lubbock; one son, Kent Holt, and his wife, Donna, of Silverton. Eight grandsons, seven granddaughter-in-laws, two granddaughters, and 15 great grandchildren.
