KEOTA-Charles “Rex” Horning, age 62, of Keota, died Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at his home.

    Rex was born May 15, 1961, in Cedar Rapids, to Charles W. and Joan (Gerard) Horning and graduated from Keota High School in 1979.  On August 2, 1980, he married Patricia Sieren at St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota.  Rex farmed with his dad and uncle for many years.  He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish, Knights of Columbus and the Clear Creek Heritage Association.  Rex enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, farming, watching sports, going to the Iowa State Fair and spending time with his grandkids.  

    Survivors include three children: Jillian (Dan) Redlinger of Keota, Jaris (Chelsi) Horning of Keota and Dillon (Tessa) Horning of Fairfield; eight grandchildren: Jaylah, Dacin, Daxton and Darin Redlinger, Cole, Rowen and Greyden Horning, Bentley Horning and one on the way; mother: Joan Horning of Keota; two sisters: Angie (John) Carr of Keota and Crystial (Brian) Wright of Keota and in-laws: Don and Edna Sieren of Keota. He was preceded in death by his father: Charles W. Horning; wife: Patty; granddaughter: Leighton Horning and uncle: George Leslie Horning.

    Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Ss. Peter and Paul Church in rural Harper, with Pastor Frosty Van Voorst officiating.  Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery.  There will be no visitation.

    In lieu of flowers a general memorial fund has been established.  Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Rex and his family.  Tributes may be made at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
