Rex A. Huffman, 73, of New Philadelphia, passed away Monday, February 24, 2025, in his home after a sudden illness.

Rex was born on July 1, 1951, in Dover, a son of Harvey and Betty Lou (Wallick) Huffman, who preceded him in death. After graduating from Strasburg High School in 1969, he attended Kent State University, studying journalism.

Rex began a career as a writer for the Uhrichsville Chronicle and then the Times Reporter from where he retired. He wrote many creative articles and was well known for covering local events.

His greatest passion was theatre. Rex was involved with Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County for nearly 40 years. During that time, he appeared on stage, and directed several productions. The company of actors and actresses became a second family to Rex. He was also involved with the Miss Clayland pageant for many years.

Additionally, for seven years, Rex and his wife Karen served as directors of plays at Strasburg High School, where both enjoyed working with the many students who participated. In 1997, Karen and Rex accompanied a group of Strasburg High School students to New York City where they were pleased to introduce them to Broadway theatre productions.

Rex married the former Karen Roberson on December 21, 1985. During their nearly 31 years of marriage, they enjoyed many trips to New York City, where they enjoyed seeing the latest Broadway musicals and visiting their favorite restaurants.

He was a member of the St. John’s Church of Strasburg where he was active in the choir.

Rex is survived by his sister, Corrinne (John) Gerber of Strasburg; nieces, Laurie Jo Gerber of New Jersey, and Angela Klein of California; great nephew, Xander; and many cousins.

The family will greet guests on Sunday, March 2, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where a funeral service celebrating Rex’s life will be led by Pastor Jason Rissler on Monday, March 3, 2025 at 11:00 AM.

Memorial contributions in Rex’s name may be directed to Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County, PO Box 53, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
