Rex Wilson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dahlonega Funeral Home on Dec. 22, 2025.
Rex Timothy Wilson, age 76, of Dahlonega, Georgia died in Cumming, Georgia on 12/17/2025.

Tim was born in Marietta, Georgia on April 18th 1949 to Rex and Mary Louise Wilson, and grew up with his big sister, Carolyn. He attended Sprayberry High School, Kennesaw Junior College, and graduated from the University of Georgia. He served in the United States Air Force and worked at the Birmingham News in Birmingham, Alabama prior to retiring to Dahlonega, Georgia.

Tim was well-known to be a kind and gentle man. He could always be counted on to show up and help whenever he was called upon. He had a deep love for his family, dad jokes, airplanes, his dogs, and spending time in his workshop, where he had many projects that he completed to varying degrees. Tim was raised in the Christian faith and was deeply devout. He would say that the most important thing in his life was his relationship with God.

Tim was preceded in death by Rex and Mary Louise, and is survived by his wife Carol Banick Wilson; his daughters Heather Nicol (Chris), Erin Butler (Chad), Dereth Wilson (John), and Meaghan Wilson (Brian); his grandsons Michael Pate, Eli and Ian Hudspeth, and Jonathan Nicol; sister Carolyn Wilson, niece Cecily Smith, and pup Lexi; as well as countless friends and loved ones.

Tim's fellowship will be on 1/10/2026 from 12:00pm-1:00pm with service to follow at Dahlonega United Methodist Church. His graveside service will be at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama, at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Alzheimer's Association.
