DeVargas Funeral Home of TaosReynaldo Manuel Martinez Jr. courageously underwent surgery, but despite the best efforts of his medical team, he passed away on September 10, 2025. During his hospital stay, he was surrounded by the love of his family and his faith. He left this world far too soon but left behind a legacy of kindness, love, and devotion.
Reynaldo was born on February 8th, 1988, in Taos, NM, to Rey Martinez Sr. and Frances Martinez. He was raised in El Salto, Arroyo Seco, NM.
He was married to the love of his life JovAnna for 15 years and they had a beautiful family. Him and his family served as active members of the church, which he enjoyed teaching alongside his wife a year one confirmation class in 2024. He was a master barber who loved his craft, he worked alongside a great group of master barbers at Albuquerque Barber Lounge and enjoyed spending time with them and their families. He loved to BBQ and listen to New Mexican Spanish, oldies & Reggae music.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Levinio and Betty Martinez and maternal grandparents Frank and Rose Olonia. His sister Lora Martinez, Godfather Felix Valencia, aunt Ida Lujan, uncle Toby Martinez, cousins Stephanie Lujan, Matt Martinez, Nicole Sandoval and Goddaughter Imani Medina.
Reynaldo is survived by his wife JovAnna Martinez and their four children; Kylani, Josiah, Ezra and Eva. His father and mother, Rey Sr. and Frances Martinez, his in-laws, Joseph and Lisa Muniz, his brother, Francisco Martinez (Brianna), sister-in-law, Marissa Mondragon (Josh), (Neice & God) Amarah, nephews, Elijiah (Godson) and Nehemiah. Godson’s Aiden Allalunis and Chris Armijo Jr. Goddaughter Amery Medina, Godmothers Josie Valencia and Sandra Rivera and God sister’s Jennifer Rivera, Bonnie Valencia, Beverly Armijo, Sonia Terrazas. He also is survived by countless friends, relatives through marriage, uncles, aunts, first cousins and second cousins who all loved him dearly. Many of them were his regular clients at the barber shop and will hold the times spent in his chair close to their hearts.
Serving as Pall bears will be: Francisco Martinez, Gavin Rivera, Aiden Allalunis, Marcos Terrazas, Tim Vigil, Virgil Vigil, Tom Totaro, Larry Rhodes, Marcus Martinez, Matt Ortiz.
Viewing will be on October 2,2025 5pm at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Albuquerque, NM with the Rosary to follow at 6pm and a candlelight vigil at 7pm across the street at Paradise Hills Park.
Funeral will be on October 3,2025 2:30pm at Holy Trinity Parish in Arroyo Seco (Taos), NM. With his burial taking place at his parents Rey and Frances Martinez residence. Comidas to follow at Holy Trinity Parish Hall.
His memory will forever live in the hearts of those who loved him.
