Rhoda Joan Prince Walter, known affectionately as Joan to her friends and family, passed away on December 21, 2025, at the age of 85, in the comfort of her home in Selbyville, Delaware. Born on January 25, 1940, in
Plainfield, New Jersey, Joan's life was a testament to her loving nature, her unyielding optimism, and her selfless spirit.
Joan was a beacon of light to all who knew her, embodying the words of Helen Keller, "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart." This quote captures the essence of Joan's approach to life, as she navigated her journey with an open heart and an unwavering kindness that touched the hearts of many.
Her academic and professional achievements were notable. Joan graduated from The George Washington University in August 1988 with a degree in Nursing Anesthesia. She excelled in her nursing career, specializing in anesthesia, and was highly respected by her colleagues and patients alike. Later, she pursued a secondary career in real estate with Long & Foster, where she continued to make a significant impact through her dedication and hard work.
Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack Walter. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her son, Kevin Lee Menedis and his wife Karen; her beloved stepson, Robert Thomas Walter, her brother, Robert Prince and his wife Sarah, and her sister, Margery Ann Prince. Joan's joy was multiplied by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will remember her for her endless love and the cherished moments they shared.
Joan's interests were as varied as they were rich. She had an enduring love for her family and connected with them through her passion for genealogy. Her curiosity and love for learning were evident in her ability to read multiple books at once, a skill that always amazed her loved ones. Joan was an avid crocheter, creating beautiful pieces that were both works of art and expressions of her care. Her beloved plant collection was a source of joy and tranquility, reflecting her nurturing soul. An enthusiastic traveler, Joan relished the opportunity to explore new places and cultures. However, her favorite journey was always returning home to host family and friends, where she created a warm and welcoming atmosphere that will be fondly remembered.
Joan's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, care, and generosity. Her presence will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we take comfort in knowing that her spirit will live on in the lives she touched and the memories she leaves behind. Joan's story is not one of goodbye but a celebration of a life well-lived and a love that endures beyond her years.
