Rhonda Lynn Thornton Boswell, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, in Denver, Colorado after bravely enduring the effects of Alzheimer's for several years. She was born on December 28, 1949, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to the late Saralu and Charlie Thornton.
Rhonda grew up in Tulsa and graduated from Edison High School. In ninth grade, she met her future husband, Bob Boswell, when she invited him to a Sadie Hawkins dance-an invitation that sparked a lifelong romance. Both Bob and Rhonda went on to graduate from Vanderbilt University, where she continued to nurture her love of art, people, and adventure. They were married on December 30, 1970, at the United Methodist Church in Tulsa. Their early married life took them from Nashville to Austin, then to San Antonio and Denver, before eventually returning to Tulsa and finally settling in Denver, Colorado, in 1989.
After college, Rhonda enjoyed a successful career in real estate, where her energy, sharp wit, and genuine care for others made her an instant favorite among clients and colleagues alike. When she became a mother, she devoted herself fully to raising her two children, Carrie and Chase, a role she cherished above all others.
Rhonda lived life with fearless enthusiasm. She loved horses, fishing, scuba diving, beaches, travel, hunting, fashion, celebrity court cases, and antiquing - anything that promised adventure and discovery. She also loved dancing, even with her awkward partner, and was known to risk life and limb to stick the landing on the perfect dance move. She did not, however, care much for hyenas or alligators, which she declared "looked dishonest."
Those who knew Rhonda will remember her as a walking fireball - quick with humor, brimming with love, and always ready to open her heart and home. Rhonda loved people and creating long lasting memories and relationships. Her magnetism, warmth, and hospitality drew people from all over the world, and her generosity left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Rhonda is survived by her devoted husband, Robert Stephen Boswell; her daughter Carrie Boswell; her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Amanda Boswell, and their children Courtland and Maribelle Boswell; and her sister Charlotte Thornton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Saralu and Charlie Thornton, and her brother, Ed Thornton.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 20th, at 10:30am at Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 1980 Dahlia Street, Denver, Colorado. Friends and family are then invited to a celebration of life at the Denver Country Club beginning at 12:30pm.
Rhonda's legacy of laughter, love, and adventure will continue to shine brightly in the lives of all who knew her. In honor of her unmistakable elegance and style-something only truly appreciated by those who knew her-ladies are invited to wear a scarf as a tribute, sending her off in the way she lived: with grace and flair.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Colorado Uplift or the Alzheimer's Foundation. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Rhonda, please visit our floral store.
