Ricardo Duran Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 8, 2025.
Ricardo "Rick" Duran, a man of unwavering faith and an adventurous spirit, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 surrounded by his family. Born on September 5, 1961, in San Juan, Texas. Rick's life was one defined by his love for God, his devotion to family and friends, and his relentless pursuit of living life to the fullest. Rick was a loving son and brother and a proud graduate of PSJA High School Bears Class of 1980.
Rick built a remarkable career in the oil and gas industry, where his expertise in pipeline integrity, asset management, environmental compliance, and safety made a lasting impact. A natural leader and mentor, he worked for ConocoPhillips, Gatco Treatment Systems, and other esteemed companies, always striving to improve processes and develop people. His strong work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to bring teams together made him a respected and valued professional.
Beyond his career, one of his proudest titles was 'Uncle Rick,' a role he embraced with all his heart. He made every holiday magical and turned ordinary moments into cherished memories. His nieces and nephews adored him, not just for the warmth and joy he brought into their lives, but for his love, wisdom, and encouragement.
Rick was also a free spirit and an explorer at heart. He rode his Harley all the way to the North Pole in Alaska, a journey that reflected his fearless nature and determination. His love for adventure took him to places near and far, and through his travels, he gained lifelong friends across the world. He had a special gift for making people feel like family, always welcoming others with warmth, laughter, and an open heart.
Rick also had a passion for dancing and many saw how effortlessly he moved across the dance floor. He was the kind of dance partner everyone wanted-graceful, fun, and full of life. Rick's love for music and movement was contagious, and dancing with him was always a moment filled with joy and laughter.
His absence leaves a deep void, but his faith in God and lessons he imparted will continue to inspire those he left behind. It is no coincidence that his services will take place on Valentine's weekend-a time dedicated to love-because Rick was a man full of love. He gave love freely and abundantly, whether to his family, his friends, or even strangers who quickly became lifelong companions. His heart was as big as his adventures, and the kindness and warmth he shared will continue to live on in the countless lives he touched.
Rick is preceded in death by his beloved parents Juanita Garate Duran and David Duran Sr. and aunts Evangelina Garate and Guadalupe Garate. He is survived by his brothers David Duran Jr. (Elma Nora), Daniel Duran Sr., Robert Duran Sr. (Minerva), Ruben Duran (Annie), and sister Diana Duran. Nephews David Duran III (Melanie), Xavier Duran, Daniel Duran Jr. (Priscilla), Robert Duran Jr. (Lauren), Jose Manuel Duran, and Thomas Jacob Duran.
