Richard Anderson Obituary

Richard D. Anderson
July 24, 1935 - April 25, 2023
Charlotte, North Carolina - Richard D. Anderson, age 89, passed away at Atrium Health Mercy Hospital on Tuesday, April 25. 2023 surrounded by his family. He grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, the son of Raymond F. Anderson, a college professor of music, and Agnes Anderson. Richard graduated from Columbia University Medical School in New York City. Following his residency in radiology at Cornell, he accepted a National Institutes of Health fellowship in neuroradiology. He served on the teaching staff at Yale University Medical School and at the University of Alabama Medical School as associate professor before entering private practice in Charlotte, NC in 1978. He was the author of several papers published in major radiological journals. He retired early, in 1994, because of a heart ailment, gave up his avocation of tennis and took up music, literature, and art.
Richard is preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Virginia Knight and his lovely wife, Suzanne L. Anderson, for whom he had a deep and abiding love. He is survived by two sons John R. Anderson and Stephen A. Anderson, their wives, Beth Anderson and Amy K. Anderson, and for his grandchildren, Molly G. Anderson, Rachel G. Anderson and Ian A. Anderson.
A competitor of the mind, Richard reveled in spirited conversation. His ideas and insightful dialogue will certainly be missed.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC; 28204 (704) 641-7606. Online condolences can be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

My heart is greatly saddened upon learning that Dick has passed. (4/25/2023) I knew him while living in Charlotte, several decades in the past, while we were both practicing medicine, but we touched base from time to time thereafter, by phone. I thought he was a very fine fellow, and I´ll be praying for him and his wife, and that I´ll be able to see him in Heaven some day!
