Richard Baker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shepherd Funeral & Cremation Service on Mar. 29, 2026.
Richard J. Baker

November 26, 1948 – March 26, 2026

Richard J. Baker, of Carver, passed away on March 26, 2026, after a long period of failing health. He was 77 years old.

Born on November 26, 1948, in Ipswich, Massachusetts, Richard was the son of the late Jean G. (Remick) Baker and Stanley L. Baker.

Richard graduated from Whitman-Hanson High School as a member of the Class of 1966. Following high school, he spent a brief time in the music business before beginning a long and dedicated career with Local 103. He was a proud union member for 40 years until his retirement. Richard had a deep love for music and art. He was a talented artist who first excelled in pencil drawings before discovering his passion for painting. Over the years, he created many beautiful works that were admired and cherished by family and friends. He also had a lifelong love of horses, a passion he shared with his daughter from a young age, creating a special bond between them.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Brittany Jean van Alphen and her husband, Bas; his cherished grandchildren, Micah and Travis van Alphen, who knew him as "Grampy"; his brother, Steven Baker, and several nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his sister, Janet Taylor, and his brothers, Bruce and Robert Baker.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, April 9, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Carver, MA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism, 42 Felton Street #3R, Waltham, MA 02453. secure.qgiv.com/for/dfjffai/
