Richard Barth Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bill Head Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. - Duluth Chapel on Mar. 4, 2026.
Richard "Rich" Dale Barth Jr., born December 22, 1951 in Rochester, New York, passed away peacefully at home in Duluth, Georgia on February 25, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Richard loved the outdoors and was equally at home at the beach or in the mountains. His spirit of adventure made it a joy to spend time in his company. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, a man who felt most at home in the quiet of the woods or beside the water. Nature wasn't just a hobby for him - it was where he breathed deeply and felt alive. When he wasn't outside, you could likely find him cheering on the Atlanta Braves, Georgia Bulldogs or enjoying motorsports, particularly IMSA racing with the enthusiasm he brought to everything he loved.

For many years, Richard built stained glass windows, crafting pieces that caught the light and transformed it into something beautiful– a reflection of how he lived. He had a charismatic presence, a quick wit, and a well-timed joke always at the ready. He loved to make people laugh, and he was very good at it. Rich loved his friends and maintaining friendships was important to him. His heart was big and he loved life.

But more than anything, Richard loved his family.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Marcia Barth, with whom he shared many wonderful memories and years; his daughter, Katharine Lutz (Barth), and her husband, Rhys Lutz; and his treasured grandchildren: Hayes, Eleanor, and Thomas Lutz. Being "Pop" was one of his greatest joys. He adored his grandchildren and delighted in every moment spent with them. His family was his pride, his laughter, and his greatest accomplishment.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard Dale Barth, Sr and Norma Schatzlein Barth. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Grant of Gainesville, Georgia and extended family in Georgia and New York.

Richard's legacy is one of love, loyalty, humor, and a life fully lived. He will be deeply missed. Per his wishes no formal services will be held, but he will be celebrated often.
