Richard Michael "Dick" Bashaw

Dick Bashaw has finished his final race. 40 years since his tragic accident Dick now joins his parents, Ezra J. & Yvette J. Bashaw, brother Jim Bashaw, sister Marlyne Bashaw and brother-in-law, Salvatore J. Clarino II, and a special caregiver, Martha Dalton who have all gone before him.
Dick attended BFA in St Albans and graduated class of 1969. He went on to Johnson State College, graduating with a degree in Physical Education.
His love for bike riding/racing led him to open a bike store, Endurance Sports in St Albans. When he was just 34 years old, he was struck by a car while finishing time trials on his bike.
Though Drs gave him little chance of survival, Dick proved them wrong. Due to his unwavering faith in the Lord, and extreme work ethic after seven years of aggressive rehabilitation, multiple surgeries, learning to swallow, talk and walk again, he was able to move home and begin his new life.
He never failed to amaze us. He lived independently, ran 5K races and trained on his beloved Stairmaster. He held down a job at BFA, which he loved and became famous for his joke of the day. He brought a smile to everyone he met.
Dick leaves his sisters, Louise Clarino and her sons, Sal (Maria) Mario, Anthony and Christopher (Sarah). Joann Foran (John) their children, Jenna Lewandowski (Jamie), Taylor Foran (Mariah) sister-in-law, Shari Bashaw (Joe) and her boys, Ezra & Isaac. He also has 5 great nieces and nephews, and many good friends including Shawn Allard and Frank Reed.
Dick's family will receive family and friends on Friday, February 28th, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Church of the Rock, 1091 Fairfax Road, St. Albans, a service will follow at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Rock.
Dick's family asks that memorials in his name be made to the Jim Bashaw Cancer and Catastrophic Illness Fund, c/o Northwestern Medical Center, Community Relations Office, 133 Fairfield Street, St. Albans, Vermont 05478.
