Richard L. Blain, aged 82, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025, in Mishawaka, Indiana. Born on July 6, 1943, in South Bend, Indiana, Richard was a cherished son to the late Fredrick and Irene Blain. He lived a full life marked by dedication to his family, his work, and his passions.
Richard's early years in South Bend were the foundation of a life filled with love, laughter, and the joy of family. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen E. Blain, with whom he shared a beautiful and enduring marriage of 54 years. Together, they raised three sons: Andrew (Lesley) Blain of Plymouth, MA, Brian Blain, and Phillip Blain, both of South Bend, IN. Richard's legacy continues through his adored grandchildren, Jack and Ava, who brought him immeasurable happiness.
After a fulfilling career as an IT Analyst at Whirlpool, Richard retired, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and camaraderie. His work ethic and innovative spirit were an inspiration to his colleagues. Richard's commitment to his community was evident through his active involvement with the American Legion Post 51, where he formed lasting friendships and served with pride in the US Army.
Richard's interests and hobbies were a reflection of his zest for life. He was an avid golfer, relishing the time spent on the greens under the open sky. Fishing was another of Richard's joys, providing him moments of tranquility and reflection. A true sports enthusiast, Richard's heart beat strongly for Notre Dame athletics, the Chicago Cubs, and the Chicago Bears. His loyalty to his teams was unwavering, and he enjoyed the camaraderie of watching games with friends and family.
Known for his love of dining out, Richard turned every meal into a celebration of togetherness. His presence at the dinner table will be deeply missed, as will the stories and laughter he shared.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick and Irene Blain; his sisters, Pat Plank and Phyllis Hankins; and his brother, Rodney Blain. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit will continue to live on through the cherished memories he created with his loved ones.
