Richard Bond Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 17, 2019.
Dr. Richard Bond, of Rock Springs, Wyoming, born on May 6, 1940 to the late Elfrida and Elmo Bond, passed away peacefully at home with his family in Albuquerque, NM, on January 2, 2019 after a very long and difficult struggle with ALS. Dick graduated from Pacific University in 1966 and served in the Air Force from 1966 until 1968 in Tachikawa Japan where he met his wife of 50 years, Mary. He loved his years as an Optometrist in Los Alamos, NM, until his semi-retirement in 2008 when he moved to Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Dick is survived by his loving wife, Mary Chabrison Bond, and his sons, Kevin and Brian Bond (Karen), daughter, Kristen Wilcox (Scott), and 15 wonderful, lively grandchildren. All who know Dick remember him as a kind, gentle man who loved serving others in Rotary for 50 years and many community and charitable organizations. He was passionate about skiing, the beautiful mountains of New Mexico and Colorado, volunteering as a tour guide for Chimney Rock National Monument, and traveling this wonderful world. If you would like to remember Richard, a donation to the ALS society would be appreciated.

We are so sorry for the entire Bond family. We knew and admired Dick when we lived nearby in Pagosa Springs. He was a tireless worker who shared his love for good scotch and good wine with those who knew him. He maintained a beautiful garden for his wife, and I remember him designing and building the most amazing wooden deck on their house in Pagosa Springs. I remember his joke about Mary being older than he was because she was 60 too. (62), when they both turned 60. I know he loved his wife and children and will be remembered fondly by his many many friends.
