Richard Eugene Brierley, 91, of Scottsdale, Arizona passed away peacefully while under Hospice Care on June 4, 2022.
He was born on July 3, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio to Eugene and Marie (McAvoy) Brierley. The family soon moved to the Valley where Richard made his home. When Richard was young his parents were divorced, his father Eugene later married Zona Belle Roberts. Zona Belle raised Richard as her own.
He attended Phoenix Union High School where he was involved in ROTC. He proudly served two years of active duty in the United States Army beginning in March of 1953 and was deployed to a small town in Germany as part of the occupying forces. He thoroughly loved his time there, learning the language and traveling to France and England whenever he could find transportation.
Collecting electric model trains, watching NASCAR and the Phoenix Suns were all activities he enjoyed. He kept up on current events and would discuss politics with anyone who would participate. He loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren on holidays, BBQs, Birthdays and family dinners.
Richard was a dependable and hardworking man his entire life, he was good with his hands and tools and could fix almost anything. He especially loved anything electric and did wiring for his home addition in Scottsdale and for his condo in Mesa, passing electrical inspections and getting the approval of the contractors.
Richard was a long-time member of Abiding Savior Church in Tempe. His church family was very important to him. In lieu of flowers it is requested that a donation be made to Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, for their outreach program.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife Eleanor, with who he spent 62 years of his life; daughter, Beth; son, Scott (Candee) and grandchildren, Jason, Heather, Micah and Kai, all of Arizona. He is also survived by his brother Bill of Little Rock, Arkansas.
A Memorial Service will be held at Messinger Indian School Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd, Scottsdale on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 10AM.
