Richard E. Briggs, 91, of South Kingstown, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, November 21, 2025. He was the husband of the late Norma Jean (Vallee) Briggs. Born in Groton, CT, he was a son of the late Stearns Eugene Briggs, Jr. and Hortance Pearl Mallory Briggs
Richard worked at Quonset Electric Boat, repairing planes for many years and then worked at the General Dynamics Groton Electric Boat Division for 18 years before retiring. He was a United States Navy veteran.
He is survived by his two daughters, Barbara Briggs and Brenda Briggs, two grandchildren, George Foly, Jr. and his wife Briere, and Crystal Foley, five great grandchildren, Dylan Foley, Peyton Foley, Daisha Torres, Mekye Foley and Serentiy Sampson, two great great grandchildren, Lillianna Sampson and Mahliki Sampson and his siblings, Donald Warren Briggs, Stearns E. Briggs III, Everette E. Briggs, Harriet Briggs Stuart, Beverly Briggs Ennis, and Mildred Foley.
Calling hours for Richard will be Monday, December 1st, 2025 from 5-7 PM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025 at 10 AM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
