Richard Camille

Richard Camille, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on October 24, 2025, at 4:39 PM.

Richard was born and raised in Catahoula until the age of seven, when he and his family made New Iberia their home.

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska-a place he often described as "A piece of Heaven." His daughter, Crystal, was born there during his service. While stationed in Alaska, Richard experienced the Great Alaska Earthquake of 1964, also known as the Good Friday Earthquake, which left a lasting impression on him.

For many years, Richard devoted his time to coaching and umpiring baseball, sharing his patience and knowledge with his children and countless others. He was a dedicated member of Highland Baptist Church in New Iberia and served as a Cub Scout leader in Lydia. A talented bowler, Richard also spent many years teaching individuals with disabilities the sport he enjoyed so much.

An avid LSU & Saints football fan, he rarely missed a game-always cheering loudly.

Richard is survived by his wife, Mary Camille; daughter, Crystal Touchet (Chad); sons, Richard Lee "Ritchie" Camille (Enriqueta), Corey John Camille, and Lance Joseph Savoy (Tanya); grandchildren, Brandon Charles Reaux, Ashely Nicole & Cheyanne Camille, and Celes Rayne & Layna Joley Savoy; great grandchildren, Jamiya Rose & Razlan Mae Kelegon, and Jaelyn Raye Clements; stepsons, Micheal, Chris & Jason Porter; and ex-wife, Susie Porter Lagneaux.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnny & Ella Curry Camille; brother, L.B. Camille; and sister, Gladys C. Riley.

Richard will be deeply missed and remembered by his family and friends. A private memorial service will be held at Highland Baptist Church at a later date.
