Richard "Dick" Sanders Cantrell, age 85, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday morning, April 1, 2025. He was born on September 27, 1939, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Dick attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, Texas, and went on to study at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. Throughout his life, he was known for his warm smile, friendly handshake, and signature high five, which brightened the days of everyone he encountered.
His parents, Grand Sanders Cantrell and Mildred Van Zandt Cantrell, preceded him in death. Dick is survived by his wife, Joan Willoughby Cantrell; his brother, William Harris Cantrell, sister-in-law, Beverly, and their family; his two daughters, Jennifer Goodman and Jessica White; sons-in-law Rob Goodman and Rolan Vega; his grandchildren, Alex Pugh and her husband Foster, Robert Goodman, and Morgan Goodman, his great-grandson, Wesley Pugh.
Dick was an avid golfer and took great joy in the outdoors. He was a dedicated supporter of Camp John Marc, volunteering and contributing to its mission from the ground up.
In honor of Dick's legacy and his profound impact on those around him, his family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Camp John Marc. These contributions will help continue to inspire confidence and enrich the lives of countless individuals, just as Dick did throughout his life.
