Richard Carpenter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Walter J. Kent Funeral Home - Elmira on Feb. 19, 2026.
Richard D. Carpenter, of Elmira, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Friday January 30, 2026.

Born January 8, 1954, son of the late Allan and Betty (Lee) Carpenter. Along with his loving parents, Richard is also predeceased by his sister Debbie Sheriff. Richard is survived by his daughter Rachel Roseann, brother Alan Carpenter "Skip", sister Nanette Ames "Nan" along with other extended family members as well as many friends.

Richard was a one-of-a-kind person with a heart of gold. He was joyous and giving, funny and kind. He was so much fun to be around. He always made us laugh. He was a lover of animals of all kinds, and was a devoted and loving brother, son, uncle and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have loved him.

He has been laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, where he rests peacefully beside his beloved parents.

Richard will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.

This is for the ones

we can't call anymore...

but still talk to

in our hearts.

In the car.

Before bed.

On the hard days.

Love doesn't end.

The conversation just changes.

Yesterday

I lost touch with Dick a few years after high school- he was wild and crazy like most of us. He was a nice guy- was one of my best friends as a teen. He and I liked to fish and explore the Chemung River in the times before the 1972 flood ( our graduation year). My condolences to his family- especially Skip and Nan.
