Richard Scott Carrell, born November 26, 1968 in St. Louis, MO, passed away after a long illness. Scott's earthly adventure came to an end on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, while residing at Maple Grove Wellness & Rehabilitation Nursing home in Fenton, MO. Scott is the son of Rick (Cindy [nee Greenwood]) Carrell and the late Phyllis (Gary) Sunshine (nee Treadway).
Besides his father and stepmother, Scott is survived by his five siblings, Kelly Carrell, Stephanie Sunshine, Shauna Moultrie (nee Sunshine), Lisa Sunshine, & Eric Sunshine; nine nieces and nephews, five great nieces and nephews, and his daughter, Lizzy and a grandchild, Payton Parson; Aunt Karen Sunshine (nee Treadway), Aunt Barbara (Roger) Pikul (nee Carrell), along with many loving cousins, family and "framily". Scott's childhood buddies, Robert Turner and Wade Stewart, have also been inducted into our crew. South Side, represent!
In addition to his mother and stepfather, Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents, James & Norma Treadway (nee Jones), Raymond & Helen Carrell (nee Beck); Uncle Willie Sunshine, Aunt Pat Halbrook (nee Carrell), Aunt Shirley (Howard) Zbornak (nee Carrell), Uncle Allen Carrell, & brother-in-law Dave Moultrie.
I've seen your face a hundred times
Everyday we've been apart
I don't care about the sunshine, yeah
'Cause mama, mama I'm coming home -Ozzy Osborne
Remember that "one" time that Scott called in the middle of the night? To let you in on the biggest secrets in music? The best of the best in metal bands, as if he were hearing it all for the first time and couldn't wait to share with you. Did you feel the breeze from his long locks of thick brown hair as he thrashed along to the beat of the drums and rhythm of the electric guitar? And we talked with him, tired but accommodating, as if we were hearing his favorite music for the first time.
Even though Scott had more than his share of trials and tribulations, at his best he was a gentle soul who loved spending time with his family and friends. He had faith in God and Jesus and enjoyed attending services from time to time throughout the years. Scott recently became re-baptized to make sure he'd be welcome through the gates once the Lord was ready to call him home.
Scott enjoyed working and earning money when he was able. Specifically, he loved to cook. His last place of employment was with Steak-n-Shake. He took great pride in his grill skills, winning the coveted spatula award with his speed and burger flipping precision.
We could write so much more. Write about his nervous giggle that said, "yeah, I hear what you're saying, but I'm gonna do what I want ", write about his dry humor and quick wit that always took us a minute to figure out, etc But no words will fill the gap, dampen the pain, or make us miss him less. So, for now, Scottie, Mama's got you. You are home.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, consider donations in Scott's honor to: The National Kidney Foundation, Comtrea of Arnold, MO, to a local church or food bank, or your favorite charity that helps those in need.
