Richard Earle Carter
April 28, 1942 - October 30, 2025
Richard (Dick) Earle Carter, 83 years old, passed away on October 30, 2025 after a long battle with cancer. Dick is survived by his sister, Carole; his wife, Wilhelmina; his daughters, Stephanie and Lisa; and his five grandchildren: Brady, Shea, Dylan, Maccoy, and Carter.
Dick was born in Denver, CO to Robert and Ida Carter. He was a fun-loving youth and an accomplished athlete in football and swimming, leading Denver East High School to the state football championship as its quarterback. Dick graduated from University of New Mexico with a Bachelor's Degree.
In his late twenties, he met Wilhelmina, who was struck by his integrity, distinct personality, and intelligence. As his career progressed with RCA Records, Dick and Willy lived in several cities, migrating from the west coast to the east, eventually settling in the New York metropolitan area. While at RCA Records, Dick was the VP of Marketing and Sales, empowering artists to achieve great accomplishments, including Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton, Zsa Zsa Gabor, John Denver, KISS, and Jefferson Airplane.
Seeing an opportunity in Latin Music, Dick left RCA Records to start Sonido Latino Records with partners. An intrepid leader of this novel brand, Dick worked tirelessly to promote Latin Music to the public. Following this chapter in his life, he moved on to become the President of Konica North America. Dick's motivating style and eccentric approach to managing people helped Konica become a predominant brand in the U.S. and Canada.
Dick retired at age 55 and spent the past few decades dedicated to family and philanthropy. His altruism made him a beacon for the underserved, working with immigrants to help create opportunities otherwise not available to enhance their lives. After retirement, Dick and Willy traveled extensively throughout Europe, Mexico, and the United States, eventually settling in Flat Rock, NC.
Over the last 10 years, Dick was steadfast and resilient in his battle with cancer. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Interfaith Assistance Ministry (http://www.iam-hc.org) or
