Richard Castillo passed away after battling a short illness on October 29, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas, at the age of 80. Richard was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on October 11, 1945.
Richard graduated from W.B. Ray High School in 1964, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas A&I University in Kingsville in 1968. His professional journey began at Sears, where he worked in the Credit Department from 1969 to 1976. He then dedicated over three decades of service to the Nueces County Supervision and Corrections Department.
A man of quiet strength and unwavering loyalty, Richard was known for his protective nature and dry wit. Though frugal by nature, he was generous with his time and always ready to lend a helping hand. He had a sweet tooth and a youthful spirit that made him especially beloved by his grandchildren.
Richard found joy in many hobbies throughout his life. He was a classic car enthusiast who appreciated the craftsmanship and nostalgia of vintage automobiles. He enjoyed playing poker with friends and spent countless hours engaged in chess matches with his sons. With his grandchildren, he delighted in games of Uno and Go Fish, creating cherished memories filled with laughter. He was also a devoted Cowboys fan and an avid golfer.
A devout Catholic, Richard attended weekly Mass at St. Patrick Church in Corpus Christi.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary; their children Richard Anthony, Jennifer, Timothy, and Sarah (Troy) Nicholson; and grandchildren Liam, Olivia, Theodore, Bennett, and Gwenyth. He was preceded in death by his parents Valentine Castillo and Concha Lugo-Castillo and siblings Alfredo Castillo, Berta Jimenez, Guadalupe Zapata, Aurora Quiroz, Gorge Castillo, Humberto Castillo, Elida Zapata, Eva Ramos, Joe Castillo, and David Castillo.
Richard's legacy lives on through the family he loved deeply and the many lives he touched through his work and friendships. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him. A visitation will be held on November 5, 2025, at 5:00 PM with a Rosary at 6:30 PM at Maxwell P. Dunne 5921 Yorktown Blvd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on November 6, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick Church, 3350 S. I knew Richard well. From high school to Texas A&I and from the Sears credit department. He was always one of the nicest guys that I had ever met. I wish that we had stayed in touch but went our separate ways. Such is life. I am sure he is now safe and happy with Our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. May rest in peace for eternity.
