It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved patriarch, Rick Chandler.
Rick left this world on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at his home in Myrtle Beach, surrounded by his loving family.
Rick was born in Toledo, OH on April 23, 1937, the son of the late Glen and Lois Chandler.
Rick's love, strength, and wisdom are the legacy he leaves with his family and all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Rick was a devoted father, and his legacy will live on through his devoted daughters: Jefri Chandler of Pawleys Island, Jeni Johnson of Georgetown, and Judi (Corey) Merchant of Myrtle Beach.
In addition to being a devoted and loving father, Rick exhibited these traits to his nine adoring grandchildren: Joe Ullrich of Columbia, Rick Whitehair of Pawleys Island, Jessica Johnson of Myrtle Beach, Stacy (Chris) Harrison of Jacksonville, NC, Chris (Miranda) Varnon of Charleston, Charlie-Anne (Chase) Berman of Norfolk, VA, Celi (Blake) Monroe of Minneapolis, MN, Rawley Merchant and Sullivan Merchant of Myrtle Beach. Rick's spirit will forever live in their minds and hearts.
Rick was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren, who added joy to his life: Vivian Ullrich of Columbia, Jack Whitehair of Pawleys Island, Evan Simcoe of Myrtle Beach, McKenzy, Chase, and Harper Harrison of Jacksonville, NC, and Archer Monroe of Minneapolis, MN. They were the apple of his eye, and his love will live on through them.
Rick is also survived by his loving sister, Sharon (Gareth) Pitzen, his brother, Zeake (Barb) Chandler of Ohio, and his aunt, Patricia Askew of Ahoskie, NC.
He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
As we mourn the loss of Rick, we also remember those who have preceded him to the eternal realm. He joins his beloved wife of 34 years, Dorothy "Charlie" Chandler, and his wife of 14 years, Linda Wilson Chandler, in their heavenly reunion.
Rick's daughter, Joanna (Gordon) Thompson, his sister, Connie Hibbs, and his father, Bruce Pollock, await his arrival with open arms.
In addition to his love for family, Rick loved his country which he faithfully served as a member of the U.S. Air Force. Rick retired after more than 22 years as a senior air traffic controller for Shaw and Myrtle Beach Air Force bases.
Rick was also an avid collector car enthusiast. Many of Rick's favorite memories included the cars, and more importantly, the friendships he collected over the more than seven decades of his involvement.
As we say our final goodbyes, remember Rick's kindness and compassion towards others and the positive life lessons he imparted to his family, friends, and acquaintances throughout his well-lived life.
Rick's memory will continue to shine brightly within his family and all those who knew and loved him.
Rest in peace dearest father and friend. Your memory will forever illuminate our lives
