Richard Fred Chapman passed away on Sunday morning, August 10, 2025, at age 75. Fred was born in Anniston, Alabama on January 16, 1950, to parents Fred and Anna Lou Chapman. He is survived by his loving wife, Lynn Chapman; daughter, Kim Chapman Randall; son, Fred Chapman Jr. (Wendy); and daughter, Cortney White (Derrick); grandchildren Taylor Ann Jenkins, Morgan Coe Randall, Anna Layne Chapman, Elizabeth Grace Chapman, Devan Faith White, and Evan Blake White, and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Anna Lou Chapman and a daughter, Keri Chapman Russell. Fred graduated from Anniston High School in 1968 and attended college at Snead State Community College, University of West Alabama at Livingston, as well as Jacksonville State University. He was a proud Anniston High Bulldog where he played football for several years. He formed many lifelong friendships with his classmates. Many of those classmates went through 12 years of school together. He always looked forward to the class reunions where he rekindled old friendships with classmates who lived outside the local area. Fred was an avid Alabama Football fan. Fred was a very caring and giving friend to hundreds of people. Even though he was an only child, he had numerous close friends that were like brothers to him. Even though those friends aren't named here, they know who they are. Fred worked at the Anniston Army Depot for 29 years before his retirement. The positions he held required him to travel to almost every state in the U.S. as well as numerous overseas locations. After his retirement from his government position, he formed his own small concrete business. He owned that small business until he suffered a stroke in August 2014. While the stroke left him physically unable to continue working, he enjoyed a fairly active life until his death. Fred knew Christ as his Lord and Savior and attended First Baptist Church of Oxford for over 33 years. The family takes comfort in knowing that the angels have welcomed him home to his eternal resting place. A family visitation will be held at 11AM on August 13, 2025, with a memorial service following at 12PM at the First Baptist Church of Oxford, 95 E. Oak St, Oxford, AL. Dr. Richard Trader and Rev. Gary Cornelius will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105
