Richard Wayne "Slick Rick" "Rick" Christian, 74, died May 4, 2025, at his home in Hutchinson surrounded by his family. He was born September 13, 1950, in Hutchinson, KS, to John Alexander Christian Sr. and Charlotte Virginia Dyche.
Rick graduated in 1968 from West Islip High School, New York, and attended Suffolk County Community College. He proudly served in the United States Navy for four years during the Vietnam War. Rick worked as a correctional officer at several correctional facilities through the United States, including Hutchinson Correctional Facility and Santa Fe Correctional Facility in New Mexico. He also was a welder at Liberty Mobile Homes in Hutchinson. Rick loved to listen to the rock and roll music of the 1960's and 70's, he even attended Woodstock in 1969. He was a motorcycle and Sailor Betty Boop enthusiast. Rick loved dogs and adopted several from the shelter throughout his life.
He married Patty Brown in Hutchinson, KS. They later divorced.
Rick is survived by: his children, Travis Christian of Hutchinson, Jackie (Thomas) Piccirelli of Long Island, NY, Kaliegh Christian of Wichita; seven granddaughters; brothers, John (Keryl) Christian Jr. of South Hutchinson, Randy Malone, John Malone, and Eddie Malone; sister, Jackie Fager of Wamego; sisters-in-law, Lori Simpson of New York, Julie Christian of Hutchinson, KS; ten nieces and nephews; 16 great-nieces and nephews; ten great-great nieces and nephews; and beloved dog, Babygirl.
He was preceded in death by; his parents; brothers, Ronald Simpson, James Christian, David Christian, Steven Christian, Randy Christian; and dogs, Maggie and Karma.
Celebration of Life will be from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m., with a service at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2025, in Waterloo, KS. Please click here to RSVP, via direct messaging. In respect of Rick's wishes, cremation has taken place.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice and HomeCare of Reno County, Hutchinson Animal Shelter, Cause for Paws, or Redemption Animal Rescue, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
