Richard J. Cleveland Jr "Rick", age 63 of Smyrna, Delaware departed this life suddenly on May 1, 2025. Rick cherished his family and all the memories they made together. Time with his family was something that he never took for granted. He treasured every second spent with his wife and children, especially his grandchildren. Being "PopPop" was his greatest honor and deepest joy. He left behind moments that will be cherished for a lifetime. Rick was a sweet and gentle soul who would do anything for anyone, without expecting anything in return. Behind his quiet nature was a heart full of compassion and love.
For all who knew Rick, his love for sports and music was a part of who he was. He had a passion for music and never missed a chance to see his favorite bands in concert. He loved playing golf with family and friends. Rick was a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan. As a true fan, he rooted for every Philly team with passion, which will leave an enduring legacy within his family.
Following in his father's footsteps, Rick was a Pipe Fitter in Local Union 74 with over 42 years of service and membership. His strong work ethic set the standard and paved the way for others to follow. Rick enjoyed his retirement in South Carolina, where he embraced the relaxed coastal retirement life. He and Reba, along with their K-9 Thor, spent these years enjoying their time together shopping and walking the boardwalk along the beach. He led by example, setting the tone for a life well lived- full of meaning, love and adventure.
Rick will lovingly be remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 36 years, Brenda "Reba" Cleveland; his children: Richard Cleveland (Elisabeth), Jennifer Cleveland (Minh), Michael Cleveland (Misty), and Brandon Cleveland (Amanda); his grandchildren: Kayla (Johnny), Mikey (Riley), Lan, Kai, Keigan, Emma, Cameron, Liliana, Marshall and Mya; his great-grandchildren: Johnny and Waylon. He also leaves behind to cherish his memories; his siblings: Robert Barrett (Erin), Donny Cleveland (Kim), Robert Cleveland (Katrina) and Melissa Probst (Gary), along with an abundance of nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved K-9 Thor, his father Richard J. Cleveland, Sr and lastly, his loving mother, Barbara E. Fleetwood, who welcomed him home with open arms.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM at Daniel Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown, DE 19709, where a funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow at the Townsend Cemetery.
