Richard Eldon Coffey

1939 - 2024

Richard Eldon Coffey, 84, of Bolivar, passed away at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024. Richard was born on Dec. 16, 1939, in Wishart, to Herman and Pauline Coffey. Richard was a 1957 graduate of Bolivar High School. On Nov. 28, 1958, Richard married Sharon Thomas, his high school sweetheart, they were married until Sharon passed in 2016.

Richard started in the workforce at Foremost Dairy, driving a milk truck. He spent most of his working career at Teters Floral Products in Bolivar, where he retired after over forty years of service. Richard enjoyed golfing when he was younger. He liked watching the Chiefs, Royals, and the Cardinals. He loved his grandkids, Shane and Hannah. His family was everything to him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Coffey; his parents; his brothers, Jim Coffey, Herman Coffey Jr, Dan Coffey, and Kenny Coffey; sisters, Elizabeth Kay Coffey, Donna Ahart, Patsy Steely, Connie Brown; sisters-in-law, Betty Jump and Bonnie Smith; brothers-in-law, Al Sullivan, Wilburn Ball, John Brown, Paul Thomas, and Sonny Thomas, and several nieces and nephews.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Pam Ferguson, and husband, Mike, of Clinton; son, Mark Coffey, of Bolivar; grandkids, Shane Ferguson and wife, Sarah, of Marshall, and Hannah Ferguson, of Clinton; great-grandkids, Heilyn and Lane; his sisters, Winnie Ball and Teressa Cornell; his brother, Paul Coffey, and many nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

A visitation for Richard will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, at Pitts Chapel in Bolivar. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at Enon Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery near Wishart.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Richard's name to the American Kidney Fund. Arrangements have been entrusted to Pitts Chapel of Greenlawn Funeral Homes.
