Richard Ray Coles led a life marked by courage, adventure, resilience, and dedication to both his family and country.

A true patriot, Rich served with distinction as a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army 5th Special Forces Group. Rich earned his BS in Chemistry from Cal State San Bernardino, followed by his MS from Loyola Marymount, and Executive MBA from the University of Michigan. His academic pursuits were a testament to his intellectual capabilities and tenacity, paving the way for his professional achievements. Rich also held a US Merchant Marine Master License for all ships/all oceans, as one of his proudest accomplishments.

Rich built a successful, respected career in environmental engineering and consulting, with a focus on ports, water, wastewater and large projects for the LA DWP. His work significantly impacted environmental preservation and resource management.

Rich was an avid fisherman and traveler, who enjoyed boating, camping and bird hunting; hobbies that reflected his love for life and the outdoors.

He was actively involved in his local community as a member of the Seal Beach Archeological Committee and Planning Commission, where he contributed to various civic activities.

He is survived by his devoted wife Andee, son Shane (Neeja), sister Donna, nephew Clark (Nikki), and a close circle of beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his father Kenneth, mother Laura, and brothers Fred and Dale.

Rich will be remembered for his undeniable grit and indomitable spirit. His life was a profound journey of perseverance, generosity and love, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
