Richard Conrad Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Campbell Funeral Home - Beverly on Aug. 15, 2024.
Richard H. "Dickie" Conrad, 75, longtime resident of Topsfield, MA passed away peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, MA on August 7, 2024. He was the loving son of the late Mary Edith (Larrabee) Conrad. Born on November 19, 1948, and raised in Beverly, MA, Richard graduated from Beverly High School with the Class of 1967. Like many of his generation, Richard proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, attained the rank of sergeant, and served several combat tours in Vietnam. Shortly after his honorable discharge and returning to Beverly, he continued his lifelong devotion to service and became a Beverly firefighter until his retirement. After his retirement, when many people slow down and enjoy life, Richard owned and operated Beverly Interiors for several years.
A simple paragraph or two cannot sum up a person's life but Richard was a proud father, grandfather, brother, veteran and fireman. As a man of simple taste, he enjoyed the quiet things in life. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, turning wrenches on old cars, restoring old military Jeeps, and was a Free Mason. Richard, known for his great sense of humor, could often be found at his camp in Lee, NH visiting friends and neighbors with his very distinctive pink golf cart.
Richard is survived by his devoted longtime partner, Karen Crandall also of Topsfield, MA. He was the proud father to his three children: his daughter Meredith Hamel of Barrington, NH, his son Adam Conrad and his wife Rene of Dover, MA and his son Parker Conrad of North Reading, MA. He was the beloved grandfather to Sadie Hamel, Graham Hamel, Gavin Conrad, and Nathan Conrad. Richard was also the dear brother of MaryAnn Vallis of Danvers, MA and Ruth Earley of Peabody, MA. He was the doting grandpa to Karen's granddaughter Lenox and will be missed by his dog Rosie. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother, Richard was predeceased by his siblings; Kenneth Conrad, Arthur Conrad, Douglas Conrad, Sandra Morse and Mary Lee Conrad and his niece Jill M. Lauranzano. He will be cherished and missed by all.
Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly will be on Monday, August 26th, from 4 – 7 PM. A private interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery. Contributions in Richard's memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Information, condolences, directions at www.campbellfuneral.com.
