Richard graduated from Southwestern High School, Detroit, MI in 1952. While attending high school he was in both track and baseball.
After high school Richard joined the Army. He was a part of the 18th Engineer Brigade, Fort Leonard Wood Missouri from March 4, 1957 - June 4, 1963. He moved up the ranks and became a Sergeant in the Army Reserves, Rank SP5 E-5, 433rd Eng BN, 6301 W. Jefferson Ave., Detroit, MI.
Richard was employed at Ford Motor Company where he worked in the Reprographics department. He worked 44 years out of the Dearborn, MI office before retiring. He held a supervisory position from 1952-1996.
Outside of work Richard was very active within the City of Woodhaven. He helped to organize the first youth recreational t-ball, softball and baseball leagues. He was appointed the First Recreation Commissioner for the City of Woodhaven. Richard was an integral part in designing the city parks and organizing city festivals. Including the Christmas festival, summer festival and car shows.
Some of Richard's past time included playing softball and golf or watching all of his beloved Michigan teams. He also loved to go deer hunting with his father, fishing with his brothers, trips to Ausable river near the Foote Dam in Oscoda, MI, smelt dipping at Ponte Pelle, Ontario with his entire family model cars and old cars. He especially loved the 57' T-Bird, 58' T-Bird and the 04' Lincoln Towne Car. Out of all of his many hobbies he especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's school activities and sports events.
We will miss his stories about; his beloved late wife Eleanor, Ford work stories and his days in the Army. Richard will be remembered for "putzin," but he will be remembered most for his generosity, coaching youth baseball, Woodhaven Recreation Commissioner and his wonderful stories.
