Richard Dale Crooks

Richard Dale Crooks, 97 of Allison Park, Pennsylvania passed peacefully on October 19, 2025.
Rich is survived by his loving Wife of 74 years, Norma Merz Crooks. Together they raised three children: Rick Crooks (Wendy) of Taiwan; Janice Espinosa (Ron) of Indian Trail, NC; and Tom Crooks (Molly) of Washington, PA. Rich and Norma are also proud of their loving grandchildren: Randy, Kevin and Derek.
Rich was the son of George and Janet Crooks of Glenshaw, PA and brother of Robert Crooks of Wheaton, IL all of whom preceded him in passing. Rich was born in Chicago, but he lived his entire life in the Pittsburgh area. He met Norma while attending Westinghouse High School in Homewood.
Rich and Norma raised their family in a beautiful home in McCandless. Rich was found regularly caring for the yard and making sure the front hedges were trimmed perfectly.
Rich graduated from the University of Pittsburgh where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. He then worked his entire 35-year career with U.S. Steel and its Union Railroad. A highlight of his career was helping to create the first computerized track switching system for the railroad.
Rich was an avid golfer. He and Norma golfed together regularly. They spent many winters in retirement in St. Simons Island, GA playing golf and enjoying beach walks. Rich had three hole-in-ones and enjoyed the challenges of hitting out of sand traps and making long putts.
Rich was a member of Ingomar Church and could be found in his same pew every Sunday. Rich was an usher and had many volunteer leadership positions at the church over the years.
Friends will be received at Simons Funeral Home, 7720 Perry highway, Pittsburgh, PA 15237. Visitation will be Thursday October 23 from 1 PM to 3 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held Friday October 24 at 11 AM at Ingomar Church. Burial to follow in the Church Cemetery. Please meet at the church.
