Richard (Dick) H. Daas passed away unexpectedly due to a brain bleed on November 3, 2023, at the St. Cloud Hospital. He was born on September 29, 1943, in Alexandria, Minnesota. Dick was united in Holy Matrimony to his wife Mary Ann (Hockert) on July 2, 1966. They raised four children. Dick’s Faith and Charity were evident to all those whom he knew. He was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church serving as a sacristan, a communion service leader, and a Knight of Columbus. Additionally, his Love for the Lord was witnessed by his Love of family, friend, and neighbor.

Dick served in the Navy from 1962 to 1965. After his Naval service, he built a successful plumbing business of over 40 years. In his retirement, he enjoyed daily Mass, gardening, watching the Twins, puzzles, and playing cards. Dick’s faithful honoring and loving of his wife Mary Ann witnessed to the beauty of Marriage. Dick’s Joy brought smile’s to friends and family with conversations and witty jokes. His generosity and service to the Catholic community are integral aspects of his legacy. Dick’s examples of prayer, piety, and humility will be discussed for generations.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis (an additional visitation will be held one hour before the Mass). Dick will be laid to rest following the Mass at Seven Dolors Catholic Cemetery in Millerville, MN.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Irene (Roers) Daas; son, Tony; and sister, Mary Jo Garay. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Hockert); children, Stephanie & (Jim) Anderson, Karen & (Phil) Mauriala, and Rick & (Katie) Daas; grandchildren, Reed Mauriala, Faith Mauriala, Sydney (Stracke) & (Scott) Athey, Nathan Stracke, Reagan, Riann and Anthony Daas; great-grandchildren, Peter, Stella, and Sean Athey and sisters, Lucille Nadeau & (Jim Wagner), and Norma & (Tim) Lanoue.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dick’s honor to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Maryknoll Fathers, Catholic Charities, or Catholic Relief Services.

We ask you to join in praying for the repose of the soul of a loving husband, selfless father, wise grandfather, and loyal friend, Richard Daas. May he rest in peace.
